The Charm of Japanese Candles
Japanese candles are made from vegetable wax extracted from the seeds of the Japanese wax tree, and the wick is made from the Japanese rushes. Each candle is made by hand by craftsmen.
Japanese candles have a slight aroma of melted wax as they burn, but there is little oily smoke. This is because they are made of pure vegetable material. When lit, the wax becomes liquid, but the liquid is absorbed by the wick and evaporates with the flame, so there is almost no dripping. The fact that the wick is made of rush grass or Japanese paper also improves the absorption of the wax.
Another feature of Japanese candles is that their flames are large, soft, and difficult to extinguish.
The hollow wick of Japanese candles allows air to flow through them easily, causing the flame to sway and bounce even when there is no wind. This “flickering” creates gives a refreshing and relaxing effect. The gentle light and the uniquely beautiful flames have attracted many people.
At Jokeian, Japanese candles are used in the F course.
